- Sift through the document for the answers to the following questions in your exercise book:

- What does the human body require energy for?
- The unit that people measure food energy in is called?
- How many kj per gram do people yeild from carbohydrates, protein, fats and alcohol?
- Look at Table 2. How many MJ of energy a day does a 14 year old boy and a 15 year old girl require? Convert your answer to kilojoules.

- Access the website through the above link.
- Read through the document and stop when you get to the tables.
- Complete the following questions in your exercise book:
- Between 2010 and 2011, how many litres of pure alcohol was available for consumption from alcoholic beverages?
- According to the website, this was how much less than the previous year period of 2009 to 2010?
- Out of beer, wine, spirits and ready to drink (RTD) drinks, which had the largest increase and which had the smallest decrease in consumption?
- How many mls of pure alcohol are in one standard drink?
Building a Scientific Pie Chart
- Using the bottom table on the website, carefully follow the instructions below to create a visual representation (pie chart) of the alcohol consumption information.
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Click on the "Insert" tab at the top of the page.
- Click on the picture of the columns that says "Chart" underneath it.
- A box will appear. In the left column click "Pie".
- Next click "OK".
Building a Scientific Pie Chart
- Microsoft Word will now open a Microsoft Excell document where you can input the information from the website.
- Any changes made in Microsoft Excell will effect your column graph in Microsoft Word.
- In Microsoft Excell there are 4 "Qtr" boxes. Rename these boxes with the words "Beer", "Wine", "Spirits" and "RTD".
- In Microsoft Excel, under the word sales, type in the figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website for the year 2011 in the bottom table, titled "Per Capita Consumption of Pure Alcohol".
- In Microsoft Excell, replace the word "Sales" with an appropriate title for your pie chart.
- In Microsoft Word, under the "Chart Tools" heading, click "Layout". (See picture below)
- Next click "Data Labels" and then choose how you would like to display the data for your pie chart.
- You should now have a pie chart created in Microsoft Word.
- Answer the follow questions in your exercise book.
- Why is a pie chart useful?
- In the year 2011 did Australian's drink more alcohol from beer or wine?
- Use the provided link to complete a Google search for the effects of alcohol. List the effects in your exercise book. Are there any positive effects of alcohol? https://www.google.com.au/
- Do you think alcohol should be made illegal? Explain your answer.
- How are alcohol, energy and obesity related?. Explain your answer.
