Hello,

I'd like to provide an update on the subscriptions, and what we are currently focussing on. If you are a current subscriber, your contact for notices and your contract manager will have received an email as well or will receive one shortly through your Mahara Business Partner if you have your contract via a Partner.

In April we released Mahara 25.04 with a number of exciting new features that are also a start of the big Mahara refresh project that is now under way. Please check out our updated roadmap that contains the section 'Done' for an easy look at all the changes that we could already implement thanks to all organisations that have a subscription for Mahara.

By far the biggest project we are engaged in this year is the Mahara refresh to go live next April with Mahara 26.04. Earlier in the year I shared mock-ups that form the basis of this development work. We are making good progress on this huge task.

Think of it as renovating your house or apartment from top to bottom, inside out, touching everything, moving everything out and back in and deciding how to improve the flow and the layout and whether to get new dishes at the same time as well or leave some of that for later. If you'd like to lend a helping hand at some point, e.g. to test the site once we are further along, please get in touch with me.

Your subscription fees directly contribute to all the work that the Mahara HQ team at Catalyst IT does for the community. If you'd like to talk with us, please get in touch and come along to events, either online or in person where possible.

Subscription fee update for existing subscribers, effective 1 November 2025

We understand that everyone's budgets are tight these days, yet expenses continue to rise. However, we do want to give organisations more certainty about the fees and thus decided to:

  • First renewal: Keep subscription fees the same.

  • Second renewal: Increase the subscription fees by 2% if you will have your second renewal after 1 November 2025 (60-day notice period for fee changes). If you have your second renewal on or after 1 November 2025, but want to commit to that renewal prior to 1 November 2025, you can continue on the current fee schedule.

Subscription fee for new subscribers, effective 1 October 2025

Organisations signing up to a new subscription on or after 1 October 2025 will have new published fees, which is a 2% increase to the current standard subscription fees. If an organisation commits before 1 October 2025 but wants to start the subscription on or after 1 October 2025, they will have the old fees applied.

Long-term subscription fee certainty

Did you know that you can sign up for a subscription for more than one year? If you'd like to have more certainty around your subscription, we can offer the following:

  • Payment in advance for a multi-year sign-up, incl. for renewals: The currently applicable subscription fee is applied for each year. If your active account holder numbers increase, the fee increase is based on the fee schedule at the time of the multi-year contract. The benefit is a locked-in fee, including currency exchange rate.

  • Annual payment for a multi-year sign-up or renewal: A 2% subscription fee increase after the first renewal, applicable to each upcoming annual renewal, no matter the standard subscription fee adjustment, which may be higher, chargeable at the currency exchange rate at the time of invoicing. The benefit is the certainty around the fee increase with annual payments.
