Hello

I would be grateful of some help installing Mahara on Mac OSX 10.9.4.

I have downloaded and setup XAMPP on my Mac. I have also downloaded Mahara 1.9.2 zip, copied and renamed the contents of the Mahara htdocs folder to the htdocs folder of XAMPP.

I am now unable to progress any further with the setup of mahara. I have read the System Administrator's Guide to Installing Mahara, but am not able to understand what to do next.

If someone could please explain step-by-step I would be grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Wendy,

It sounds like the next steps you'd need to take would be:

  • Create a database
  • Create your Mahara dataroot directory
  • Copy Mahara's config-dist.php file to a config.php file
  • Fill in the correct info in your new config.php file

If you're completely new to setting up a PHP web application, you might find it easier to use an auto-installer, like Bitnami: https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=6502

Cheers,

Aaron

Hello Wendy,

Why do you want to set up Mahara on your Mac? Is it for testing purposes? If you wish to use it for your portfolio creation, I recommend to set it up on an internet server rather than your computer because Mahara is best when it lives online. Then you can make use of the collaboration features and also allow others access to your portfolio. Mahara is not designed as desktop software. Hence the need for a web server.

Cheers

Kristina
