Why did Mahara change the font from version 24.04 to 25.04? I suddenly had broken fonts. I replaced the fonts by overwriting the 24.04 to 25.04. See this screenshot, left is 24.04 right is 25.04. Look at the filesize. Something is off?

Hi Richard,

It looks like you copied the Font Awesome files from Mahara 24.04 to Mahara 25.04. We don't know why the file size would be bigger in 25.04 after the copying. That's a question for your server team as that isn't Mahara functionality.

Font Awesome is not used in Mahara 25.04 any more and thus copying that font into 25.04 would not result in that font being able to be used easily.

We changed from Font Awesome to Material Symbols as part of our Mahara refresh. Material Symbols is more flexible and thus gives designers more options to adjust the style of the icons (without purchasing a pro pack).

Sorry, but this is the standard reply from Catalyts: it's not us, it's you.

This is your original mahara-25.04.1.tar.gz:

As you can see for yourself: the fontawesome is in there. And what I am asking is: why are these fonts changed if you compare them to 24.04 version? They are the same fonts, but the file size is now different.

So this is not something WE do. And yes, I have seen that Material Symbols are now being used. But that (for me) is beside this point. I just found out that the fontawesome files (that we use) have all been changed - and it results in errors.

Sorry for this harsh reply, but I already expected the 'It's not us - it's you' response. It doesn't really motivate to find and locate problems and share them on this forum!

Hi Richard,

I apologise, I didn't look in the correct place. The Font Awesome folder is still there, but the font is not used. We will remove that directory.
