Move account to another institution function

Hi,

I'd like to know how the "Move account to another institution" function works.  From my understanding it should move the account from one institution to another institution as the name suggests.  It seems like sending a request to somewhere (maybe to the idp), when I try the function,  but nothing really happened.  The account is still in the original institution and no one received any request.  Both source and target institutions use SAML authentication.  Do I need to config something else to make the function working?

Hi Jin,

When you clicked the 'Send request', were you asked to log into the IdP to verify your credentials? Is registration turned on for your institution? Does the login for the intaking institution work through SAML?

Hello Kristina,

I don't see log in page for idP when send request.  All institutions use SAML, but they doesn't allow registration.  Maybe that is the reason (member cannot request membership and members cannot leave)?

Is it possible to disable "Move account" function or hide it?  Users think they could move between institution when they see the page, plus there is no error message when they do it; but in fact they cannot since we don't allow registration.

Hi Jin,

At minimum you could comment out the part about the account move if you didn't want to make big changes, and comment out the menu item.

Hello Jin,

The process should get the person to login to their Identity Provider (IdP) and on confirming that an email should be sent to the person with the subject "[person] account move confirmation" with a verification link that is valid for 30 minutes.

Does the person not get this email?

Hello Robert,

I don't see IdP login page or receive email confirmation.  

Maybe "institution registration is disabled" is the reason as my reply to Kristina?
