Suspended Account Question
06 June 2024, 3:09
Hi we have our users to be auto suspended after 5 years of inactivity.
We have noticed that any portfolio/profile of suspended accounts are still visible to other users on the system. Is this by design? It just seems strange that sharing options would still be applicable for suspended accounts. Is there a way for us to remove this functionality and have it so that once a user's account has been suspended their portfolio or profile is made private?
Thanks.

Hi Michael,
Portfolios are not automatically set to private when the inactivity kicks in because the information could be very static and thus doesn't need a lot of updating, I suspect. I don't know if that was the original reason though.
It would be good to hear what others think should be the behaviour when an account reaches the inactivity stage, expires, or is suspended for any other reason.
If you want to change the behaviour on your site, you are welcome to do that and change the code. I suspect it wouldn't be a trivial change as you'll need to remove the permissions based on the inactivity rule and also decide if you want to remove them entirely or put on hold so if the account is reactivated that all permissions are put back into place. You should probably also update the notification to state that content will not be available to people with whom it has been shared if the account goes inactive.
For Mahara core, I could see this as a feature request with a configurable option for institution administrators (and site admins) so they can determine the behaviour.
Cheers
