First attempt in Moodle assignment no longer visible
06 March 2023, 1:50
Hi,
In the Moodle assignment we use the integration with Mahara to hand in a portfolio. It has come to my attention that when the student is given a second attempt the teacher can not acces the link to he first attempt anymore. Is this a known problem and does anyone have a workaround? (see image).

Hi Emelie,
Which plugin are you using? The MNet version or the web services version?
Thank you

Hi Emelie,
Thanks for the version. Since there is an explicit message stating that previous attempts are not available, it's not a bug but functionality that hasn't been implemented yet. The same is true for the web services version of the plugin.
With Mahara up to right now I think it wouldn't be possible to get access to a previous attempt as the portfolio is returned to the student and they can make changes on it. Therefore, anything that they submit again would be the current portfolio and the link of a previous attempt would go to exactly that portfolio thus always displaying the current state rather than a historic one.
However, in Mahara 23.04 due for release in the second half of April this year, we are changing the way how portfolios are submitted: Instead of submitting the actual portfolio, students would submit a copy of a portfolio. That is then released and thus could be linked to as any new attempt would make another copy. So 23.04 onwards should allow us in general to have access to earlier attempts if that is added to the plugin, provided the student doesn't delete their previously submitted portfolio. There are ways to prevent that, e.g. by keeping submitted portfolios locked forever.
The Mahara project team does not develop new features for the MNet version any more as PHP 8 will make it difficult to work with the XML-RPC protocol that is used for MNet. We do however accept new features for the web services version of the plugin that uses LTI for authentication purposes. If you'd be interested to sponsor a project to bring this function to Mahara that would be great, and I'd be happy to discuss that with you.
Thank you
Kristina
