Dear experts,

in our Mahara the person search only works to a very limited extent.

When a student tries to share a Mahara view with the teacher, the student cannot find the teacher using the people search.

1. Question: What could be the reason for this?
2. In which fields of the database (table) does the person search search?

Hi Daniel,

What do you mean that a student can't find their teacher? Are no results shown at all? You may wish to check if you have 'Exact search' activated as that requires that the full first name or last name is provided, not just a partial. If you turn that off, you can search for any string.

Hi Daniel,

It's still only the name / display name as the built-in search only searches those things. If you want a wider search, you can achieve that with Elasticsearch, but that doesn't tie into the 'Edit access' page.

Please note that Wildcard search is not supported in Elastic search. We had to move away from Elastic Search for this reason, people could only be found if you would type an exact match of their names. Sometimes this is very difficult, especially with international student names.

We received to many calls on the helpdesk from students and teachers that they were no longer able to find the correct person after we started to use Elastic Search. This made us go back to standard search, which does allow you to type only a part of the name to get a match.

Hi Daniel,

It looks like we've been strengthening the security around file access a bit too much with the last security update and hence can't view your file. We'll file a bug about it to get this sorted.

If you'd like to file a bug in the meantime, you can attach your file on Launchpad.
