Hello everyone,

Spring is finally on its way in Aotearoa New Zealand. For those of you living in the Northern Hemisphere: Have a wonderful autumn. That also means it's time for another Mahara release. Today, I'd like to announce the preview version of Mahara 22.10. We will be releasing Mahara 22.10 by the end of October (will it be a Halloween special?).

You can download the release candidate or access it on Git.

If you come across any bugs, please report them by 25 October 2022 if possible. We will then review them and decide whether we can still fix them before the release of Mahara 22.10.0 by the end of October 2022, or whether they will go into a later release.

There are a number of new features in Mahara 22.10. A few notable ones are

• UX improvements around alt text and captions for images
• UX improvement to consistently to 'Portfolio' around the site when meaning 'Pages and collections'
• SmartEvidence report and summary information on the matrix page
• 'Quick edit' options to PDF, files to download, course completion blocks
• Basic support for LTI 1.3 Advantage for Moodle
• Bootstrap 5
• Font Awesome 6 icons
• Beginning compatibility with PHP 8.1

These features will soon be documented in the Mahara manual for Mahara 22.10.

You can view a list of all the bugs that have been fixed and new features that will go into Mahara 22.10.

If you reported bugs and they have been fixed, pay particular attention to them and check that all is working now.

From tomorrow on, you can use our developer instance to check out the new features of Mahara that don't require site administrator access if you can't install it yourself.

After the release, I will be running a number of free sessions in the first few days of November:

• Introduction to Mahara
• New features in Mahara 22.10

These sessions cater to different time zones. Pick the one that suits you best.
