Should skins survive an update?
23 July 2021, 22:56
We recently updated from 20.04 to 21.04 and most/many of the skins "broke".
Is this expected?

Hi Howard,
Can you elaborate some more about how they 'broke' - does this mean they look strange or stop working?
There was this bug report recently https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1931826 that fixed some issues with skins.
Also there was https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1926407 that should allow older skins to continue to work.
Can I get you to check if these changes are present on your code base and if that fixes the problem?
Cheers
Robert

For full disclosure, I have never used skins myself. I don't know how they work.
A prolific user reported that some of her views looked strange. When we looked all the coloured headings on the blocks where missing. We removed the skin from the page (on a hunch) and they came back. That was the most obvious difference. It was working before the upgrade (I'm told).
I wondered if skins depended on the nuances of the current theme.

Hi Howard,
Skins are impacted by the underlying theme. Can you also please check if there is any custom CSS in the 'Advanced CSS' in the skin? Recently, we found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931826 that might also impact the behaviour you are seeing.
Thank you
Kristina
