It would be great to have the abiiity for new Registrants to create a new Institution.
Our Mahara is targeting thousands of Schools Worldwide and we simply don't know all their names, so that we would be able to create those schools in advance.

There seems to be no ability to add ne institutions or to suggest new institutions by new people who just register.
Pretty handy would be if a new Institution could be created and been approved i.e. after a new member suggests a new institution and creates it and also is able to upload i.e.the company registration papers -

Such an institution registration page would need all fields available to register an Institution (some required - like Name, responsible person(s) but needs to be accessible by new members or older ones which probably just create or like to join a new institution which is not existing now in the system.

As we have schools all over the world, those institutions might have even the same name but are located in different locations, this means beside having the actual  legal correct Institution Name we would need also a Display name or a combined (Institution name, city, state, country) would be necessary to clearly separate them from each other.

There are also some worldwide acting organizations like "AMI" = "Association Montessori International" but which than has also sub devisions like "AMI-Australia".  This might be possible if Institutions can create sub-institutions which again manage their members by themselves.

Hi Andi,

Currently, new institutions can be created automatically with a bit of magic and SAML SSO. That requires everybody though to be in an IdP, which may not be the case for you by the sounds of it as the institutions would be pretty independent. Institutions in Mahara are mostly used for administrative purposes, e.g. to give admins certain permissions as well as manage the authentication methods and certain settings that can be controlled by an institution. It would certainly possible to give more power and allow someone to create a new institution themselves. I'd suggest to put an approval process in place though for the site admin so that you don't get rouge institutions by spammers...

Cheers

Kristina
