Bug: Allow submissions in groups without members

26 April 2018, 19:58

Good morning,

I found a bug in mahara that appears in the following case:

  1. I prepared a group in mahara before I invited students
  2. I activate "allow submissions" in this empty group
  3. The result is the message SITE UNAVAILABLE A nonrecverable error occurred. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system

Is there a way to modify this message. After researches, I understand the reason, but the message of this report is not clear.

I use Mahara version 17.10.2 (2017092611)

Best regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

I can't replicate the issue on my local instance of Mahara 17.10. Do you get the message right after saving the group permissions or did you click anywhere else? It would be good if you updated to the latest minor point release of Mahara 17.10, which would be Mahara 17.10.4 https://launchpad.net/mahara/17.10/17.10.4

Can you please check in your error log for the more detailed message relating to your error? Alternatively, if you are testing this on a testing site, you could print error messages to the screen by adding the config value "productionmode = false" to the file. Please see http://manual.mahara.org/en/17.10/administration/config_php.html#productionmode-enable-or-disable-production-mode for more information on that.

We do not provide more detailed error messages when they are encountered (unless you are on a test site and set productionmode to false) to prevent potential leak of sensitive information that could be exploited. You find more details in the error log. If you can't make out what the error message means, please post it here and we can take a look.

Cheers

Kristina
