Hello All,

It has been a long time since I have managed a Mahara site so apologies for being rusty. I have just finished Mahara 17.04 on an Ubuntu server and almost everything is working. Emails are being sent and received but the Inbox feature on any account is not working. Please see below:

Inbox | Notifications 

Mahara: Site unavailable
A nonrecoverable error occurred. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system

Any ideas on what the issue might be and how I could fix it?

Some further info, an additional error message:

Call to undefined function mb_strlen()

Problem solved!

For anyone else, the solution was to install php-mbstring

Which version of PHP are you on?

When you encounter the generic error message in Mahara of nonrecoverable error, please always check your error log as it will contain additional information that we'd need to look into the problem. If you are on a dev environment, you can even print the error messages to the screen to facilitate the testing and reporting of errors: See http://manual.mahara.org/en/17.04/administration/config_php.html#productionmode-enable-or-disable-production-mode
