Hello Jan,

Was that fresh install a Mahara 15.04 on Ubuntu or a Mahara 16.10? From the parse error you got it seems like Moodle didn't pass everything through. It would help if you checked the Moodle error log when you try to jump between Moodle and Mahara and see if anything is in there.

,Jan, who is responsible for developing our plugins (EPOS) for Mahara, already answered the first part of your questions.

Considering your second question: You wanted to know how our "users logged into Moodle rather than Mahara when they had MNet set up from Mahara to Moodle." My statement actually proved false. I myself tried to login directly to Moodle with my Mahara account and it worked, ... but only for me, because I had also an account for Moodle which is the same as my account for Mahara. Therefore, logging directly into Moodle seemed to be possible. ;-) Sorry for misleading.
