Hi everyone,

I upgraded my Mahara to 15.10.1 version but the theme I was using (Ambrose, made by Dirk Meyer) is no longer compatible with it.

Do you know if it's possible to reproduce the same personalised dashboard on other themes? How to do it?

Thanks in advice.

Here is a screenshot from the old "Ambrose" theme:

Hi Fabio,

The theme templates had a complete overhaul in Mahara 15.10, to use the Bootstrap framework. One unfortunate side effect of this is that pre-15.10 themes are pretty much completely incompatible with it.

I know Dirk has already implemented at least one 15.10 theme: https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=7451&offset=0&limit=10#post30014

You might also talk to Gordon McLeod who designed "Ambrosia", which was sort of the successor to Ambrose: https://github.com/LearnTribe/mahara-theme_ambrosia18

Though they're pretty active here on the forums so I should probably just wait and let them speak for themselves. ;)

Another possibility would be to try using the configurable theme to replicate the Ambrose color scheme, although that wouldn't look quite the same: http://manual.mahara.org/en/15.10/administration/institutions.html?highlight=theme#configurable-theme

And lastly, if you're technically inclined, you could try to adapt the theme yourself. I've updated the wiki with some information about the Mahara 15.10 theme system, including my hare-brained idea of someone writing a "legacyraw" theme to provide backwards compatibility for 15.04 themes: https://wiki.mahara.org/wiki/Customising/Themes/15.10#15.04_migration_help

Cheers,

Aaron

Hi Aaron, thank you very much!
I'll try to learn how bootstrap works and make something similar.

Hello Fabio,

It's nice to hear you have been using the theme. There is no immediate plan to update that theme. I have to say though that I liked the yellow/brown the theme had going also. Gordon did something with the Ambrosia so its better for visually impaired users. Maybe we should look at keeping this theme, or at least some version of it going.

Hello,

I've been planning to update Ambrosia but simply haven't had time over the past few months. I will try and familiarise myself with the new Bootstrap framework over the Christmas break and hopefully roll out the updated version next month.

Regards, Gordon.

Thank you Dirk and Gordon for your answers, I hope the theme will get a second chance since it was one of the best, not only for the nice choise of colors but also for the very useful dashboard.

Best regards

Did Ambrosia/e have something custom in its dashboard? From the screenshots it looks like the standard links from the Mahara 1.8 era dashboard.

The dashboard "cheat sheet" is actually fairly easy to customize. It's a self-contained template called homeinfo.tpl

Oh I didn't know, thank you Aaron!

You're right, this file seems to be easy to edit, the only problem may be the convertion of the table into floating divs, but we can do that using the bootstrap grid system.

OK, here is our new version of this theme. Hopefully it will be useful to some. Always happy to receive feedback. Before downloading, you could test drive the theme by going to www.portfoliocommunities.com and then selecting the theme under 'Settings' or on individual pages.

Download it here: https://github.com/dirkca/Ambrose
