Mahara 15.10 is released

Hello Mahara community,

Today we are pleased to announce our latest version of Mahara, version 15.10 (as in 2015 October for the release month). We'd like to extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to this latest version of Mahara and who has been testing it over the past few weeks during the release candidate state.

Highlights in Mahara 15.10 include:

  • Completely reworked themes, using the Bootstrap front-end framework
  • Improved mobile layout
  • Group journals, institution journals, and site-level journals
  • Optional multi-threaded feedback comments
  • The default layout for new pages can be customized
  • Collections are now listed on the Dashboard, Profile page, and "Shared with Me"
  • Lots of general usability improvements

Other notable new features include:

  • MathJax and mhchem support in the visual editor
  • Statistics for active users by institution
  • Better email address management in the administration area
  • Password recovery command-line script

Supported releases

Both Mahara 1.10 and 15.04 are still supported for security updates. The support for Mahara 1.10 will end with the release of the next version in April 2016, and the support for Mahara 15.04 will end in October 2017. Since the 15.04 release is the last one before moving to Bootstrap, we extended the support for it to 2.5 years instead of the usual 1.5 years to give institutions more time to upgrade if they have a lot of customizations.

If you are running a Mahara site lower than 1.10, we highly recommend you upgrade to 15.10 to receive security updates. Users of Mahara 1.10 and 15.04 can stay on their versions until that support runs out. Mahara 1.9 will receive one more minor version update.
