Mahara 15.10 ready for a test drive
29 September 2015, 21:25
Hello Mahara community,
Finally, it's here: The release candidate 1 for Mahara 15.10! We've kept you waiting for longer than normal, but can finally reveal this latest upcoming release to you. We are planning on releasing Mahara 15.10 in the second half of October.
In order to meet that goal, your active participation in testing Mahara 15.10 is much appreciated. You can help make it more robust and find those big (and small) things that should be fixed before the official release.
If you have the chance to set up a Mahara instance on a test server or upgrade your test on a test server (not your live production site!), you can download the release candidate at
https://launchpad.net/mahara/+milestone/15.10rc1
New features for the release candidate are listed on Launchpad with the "nominatedfeature" tag (there may be a couple other smaller features still hiding):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bugs?field.milestone%3Alist=69859&field.tag=nominatedfeature
The list is short, but actually there are massive changes in Mahara: We implemented the Bootstrap framework thus re-doing the CSS, some parts of Javascript and also creating entirely new themes.
As usual, there's been also a lot of bug fixing again in this release. You can see a list of all changes so far for 15.10 at
If we fixed bugs that affect you, now is your chance to test that the changes work.
In case you find new bugs, please report them on Launchpad so they can consider to fix them before the 15.10.0 release:
If important bugs are found within the next week, we may produce a second release candidate. Otherwise this release candidate will become the final 15.10.0 release.
We will be updating the public development instance of Mahara in a few hours when it's daylight again in New Zealand. ;-)
Cheers

Hello,
Our public development instance http://master.dev.mahara.org/ has been updated to the Mahara 15.10 RC1 and you can test on that site if you do not have a test instance you can explore Mahara 15.10 on.
You can create a temporary account on the site. Content can be deleted at any point. If you wish to keep anything, please export your content.
We set the site up so you can change the theme in which you can browse the site at http://master.dev.mahara.org/account/index.php Please feel free to try any of the available themes.
Cheers

Hello,
We didn't mention one thing explicitly for Mahara 15.10: When you install / upgrade to Mahara 15.10, you will need to compile the CSS. The README file in the main theme folder explains the steps needed for that as well as how you can install npm and gulp, the two programs that are required.
Once you have these two installed, you can run "make css" from the command line being in your main Mahara folder and all themes will be compiled.
Thus, if you get an error message during the installation that Mahara can't find CSS or the CSS looks broken when you upgrade, it's because the CSS hasn't been compiled yet in most cases.
Cheers
