Images in text boxes
12 August 2015, 17:07
Hi
We are using 1.9.
When users insert an image into a Text box (by copying the image link from the files area), the image becomes a hyperlink.
The image below shows the image is now a hyperlink:
If the user clicks on the image, then they are taken straight to the image in their browser.
Is this normal behaviour?
Is there a workaround to stop this hyperlinking?
Thanks in advance,
Teresa

Hello Teresa,
I don't know if it is a bug or not. ;-) It does link the image automatically to the image upon saving the text box. You can't see the link in the HTML. So I suspect that it works like a regular link: When you put a link like https://mahara.org into the text without actually linking it, it will be auto-linked.
You can overwrite that and link to a different website by providing the actual link target. I checked 1.10 and 15.04: The auto-linking only happens in 1.9 and 1.10 but not in 15.04 anymore as we made changes there.
I don't know of a workaround to stop the auto-linking I'm afraid. The students could link to the image source, but that would still mean that the image is linked.
Cheers
Kristina

Thanks for that Kristina.
We will be by-passing 1.10 and upgrading to 15.04 in a few months.
Kind regards,
Teresas
