Problem with Install :(

During the install I was following the instructions until I got to the part where it says, "In your php.ini file (often found in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini), make sure you have these:"

My problem is there is no /etc... folder.  So where is the php.ini file exactly?

I also get this error when I try to run the installer:

Mahara: Site unavailable

Your server configuration does not include the pgsql extension. Mahara requires this in order to store data in a relational database. Please make sure that it is loaded in php.ini or install it if it is not installed.

Please help!

Thank you!

Hi Ryan,

The location of your php.ini file will depend on your operating system.

What operating system are you using?

Cheers

Wow!  I didn't expect a response until business hours tomorrow!

Impressive... Most Impressive...

I am actually trying to install it on an apache web server.  I think.  It's a  shared hosting account with HostGator.

I had it installed in early 2014 for a while and I can't remember why I uninstalled it.  Since I had it installed before I am surprised that I am having trouble reinstalling it but, maybe things have changed since then.

Hi Ryan,

From your initial post it looks like you were trying to set up Mahara to use a postgres database.

However, looking at HostGator, it looks like they provide access to a Mysql database.

Can you try connecting to a Mysql database instead? In you Mahara config.php file

change the $cfg->dbtype to equal 'mysql'.

Cheers

That worked!  It loaded green lights all the way down.

Now the only error I get is this one...

Warning

  • Your PHP session.entropy_length setting is too small. Set it to at least 16 in your php.ini to ensure that generated session IDs are random and unpredictable enough.

Where is php.ini located?

In your php.ini file (often found in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini)

Ok, I've discovered that the php.ini file is actually outside my root folder on my server.  The problem now is, there is still no php.ini file.  Actually there is only an etc folder.  No php5\ etc....

Hello Ryan,

HostGator has a special setup since it's a shared hosting provider. The following support article may help you further:

I went there and read and tried to create my own php.ini file but it didn't work.  I used the settings suggested in Mahara Install instructions and it saw the php.ini file but seemed like it didn't read what I placed inside the file.  I contacted HostGator support and they said they could set up the file for me but there was a problem with my DNS A Record that I had to fix before they could help with the file.  I fixed my A records and that made the entire install come up with all sorts or errors.  SO, I deleted everything and tried to reinstall and now I am getting even more errors than before.

I've about had it.

Take a look if you think you can help.

Hello Ryan,

Sorry to read that you have problems installing Mahara on HostGator. It is not the easiest to install Mahara on a shared hosting such as that as we don't have sufficient experience to make it work easily on sites that are more point and click. You could try to install Mahara via http://www.softaculous.com/ as that offers an auto-installer for Mahara.

The link to your community doesn't take me to a Mahara site. I suspect it's still something on the HostGator setup that is missing to make it work properly.

Cheers

Kristina

Mahara Install

I don't know if this will help or not but I took a screen shot of what I am encountering during an install attempt.

It seems to just get stuck here.

Then, after like ... an HOUR I give up on the install and go back to http://www.euro-list.com/community and that is where I see all sorts of errors and it seems like it is already logged into the admin area.

I don't know what to do.

Does anyone have any ideas?
