Image snapshot of PDF, but display when clicked
22 December 2014, 9:56
Is there any way in Mahara to disdplay a small snapshot of a PDF, but the user has to click on the PDF to display the whole page?
I wanted to create a page called "8th grade". One of the rows would be report cards, and there are 4 quarters in a year (4 report cards). Each report card is single a PDF page. I can get a small PDF (with scroll bars). What I would prefer is a scaled down version of the page, even if it is not readable, and then when the user clicked on the PDF page, it would bring up the PDF document as a whole page that is readable. Similar to what images do. A smaller version can be put on a page, and when the user clicks on it, the large image is displayed.
Also, is there a way to insert a link? So instead of inserting my actual PDF, I would insert a link to my PDF.
* 6th Grade Report Card (pdf)
* 7th Grade Report Card (pdf)
* 8th Grade Report Card (pdf)
I am envisioning where the student should technically include the report card, but the student may not want to emphasize the report card.
Thanks for any help

Hello Melissa,
You can already insert a link to the PDF by using the "Files to download" block. :-)
It's not yet possible to display thumbnails of PDFs in a page. There was https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/547710 where it was suggested, but then we implemented to display the entire PDF and then click in there to download it / view it bigger.
Mike Kelly on http://workflow.arts.ac.uk/ and based on this work, AUT University (see article in the latest Newsletter at https://mahara.org/view/artefact.php?artefact=394338&view=36871 ) implemented thumbnails for pages. Maybe some of that work could be used for PDFs.
Cheers
