Hi...

I'm interested in providing better capabilities for file uploads (particularly images) for forum posts and other places where input is handled with TinyMCE. Ideally I'd like to make it easier to include images in those areas. With the current TinyMCE included with Mahara, it's possible to do that, but the image already has to be available through some URL -- I want instead to allow easy upload within the same interface.

It looks like the newer version of TinyMCE may do a better job of this, though I can't quite tell whether that's built into TinyMCE or is only enabled with a paid add-on called MoxieManager.

I also came across a plugin for TinyMCE 3 that claims to allow uploads:

I'm curious to know if others have tried to provide this functionality and how you went about it. I can certainly try to replace the TinyMCE within Mahara with the newer version, and/or add MoxieManager, or just try the simple plugin -- but I wanted to see what others have done before trying these things.

Thank you for your post. We will have the new version of TinyMCE in Mahara 1.10. You can already check it out in in git.

Mike Kelly is working on improvin the image upload / display. See https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=6221 - maybe you can join forces with him?

Hi Steve,

I will submit the TinyMCE plugin and supporting code I've developed back to core once I've finished applying updates to my live site here.

I have been adding many updates to our Mahara instance, a lot of them v1.9 features but some unique ones too. I've documented the main changes here for our users:

Perhaps some of the custom changes could also be considered for resubmission to Mahara core.

I found that most of what I wanted to do was to post a picture and then some text.  So  I modiifed the text artefact to display and image instead of just listing it.  I called it text plus.  But fixing things within TinyMCE and mahara is really the best solution.  Good luck.

This flaw in the design was why I eventually gave up on Mahara for the time being, and looked into other systems.  I like the text flexibility of other systems, but the security system of Mahara.
