Email notifications to students

This may relate to the ‘Read me’ post about ‘Some/all emails are not being sent…'
We have created groups for students to submit their portfolio assignments to. Upon submission we receive email notification that a student has submitted a portfolio. However we would also like students to receive an email notification as confirmation that they have submitted, but this doesn’t seem to be happening.
Is there a setting which needs to be enabled to activate this type of email notification? Or are the email notifications only sent to group administrators?

Mahara currently supports 2 types of groups which are "Standard" and "Course".
None of these types of groups supports sending an email notification as confirmation to the group members. Only group admins or tutors can receive the email notification.
However, the student who submitted a page to a group can see the text in his/her portfolio like
This page was submitted to Group 001 on 19 June 2014, 10:10 AM.
as a confirmation for his/her submission.

In addition to seeing when their page was submitted on Portfolio -> Pages as Son described, when students are about to submit their page to a group, they need to actively klick the "Yes" button to confirm that they want to submit their page. So they have two ways of knowing that their page is being submitted and has been submitted. If you still wish for them to receive a notification via email and / or in their inbox, you can file a wishlist item in our tracker at https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+filebug and describe why the notification would be necessary.
