Mahara 1.9 has been released

Hello Mahara users,

It is mid April and thus time for another Mahara release. We have a number of great new features and bug fixes again.

Without further ado, here are some of the highlights:

  • Fulltext search support for MySQL with Elasticsearch
  • Series of accessibility improvements to achieve W3C WCAG 2.0 Level AA (except for some admin pages)
  • Place feedback for a page in a block
  • Institution-specific dashboard and default language
  • Profile completion progress bar
  • Spam protection enhancements
  • Cookie Consent (esp. important for European users)

Other notable new features include:

  • Support for Creative Commons 4.0
  • Sort files in the "Folder" block ascending or descending and set default sort order
  • Download an entire folder of files as zip file

Supported releases

Both Mahara 1.7 and 1.8 are still supported for security updates. The support for Mahara 1.7 will end with the release of 1.10 (targeted for October 2014), and the support for Mahara 1.8 will end in April 2015.

If you are running a Mahara site lower than 1.7, we highly recommend you upgrade to 1.9 to receive security updates. Users of Mahara 1.7 and 1.8 can stay on their versions until that support runs out.
