Upgrade Advice
25 November 2013, 11:53
Hi there,
We are looking at at upgrading to Mahara 1.8.1 as soon as it is released. My understanding is that it is better to wait for this version rather than upgrade to 1.8.0. We are wanting to upgrade before the end of the year and I would like to know if 1.8.1 is likely to be released before then? Also, is my assumption of waiting until 1.8.1 correct?
Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Heidi

Hi Heidi,
Well, we haven't identified any critical bugs in 1.8.0 yet, but we do have a few labelled "high" priority. You can see the full list here: https://launchpad.net/mahara/+milestone/1.8.1
So far I'd say the biggest known issues are:
- MySQL sites that provide a $cfg->dbport value (instead of using the default port number) can't run at all - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247715
- A form error prevents admins from changing a user's auth method via the individual account settings page (it can still be changed via the bulk settings page) - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254394
- The "No Institution" can't be set to have skins enabled - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1249123
- Users on mobile devices can't add blocks to pages - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248307
Numbers 1 - 3 are already resolved, and we're still testing a fix for #4. Once that's ready, we'll probably do the 1.8.1 release. We'll include fixes for all the other less urgent issues that have fixes ready for them.
Cheers,
Aaron
