Mahara 1.8 Testing Questions
12 October 2013, 4:38
Hi everyone!
I recently tested Mahara 1.8 on http://master.dev.mahara.org/, and I have a few questions about it.
One question I had for the 1.8 version is about Google Apps. I wanted to see how a Google doc. would look if posted on a page, so I used an old document and shared its link. It appeared on my sample page, but it looks a little weird. Is that how a Google Docs normally looks like on ePortfolio? I wanted to adjust the width of the Google doc., but there was no button for that. I think I can't adjust the width because it adjusts itself to the page layout it’s in. I think if I chose a page layout of just two columns maybe the bar at the bottom of the Google doc. won't show up. That bottom bar bothers me because I thought the Google doc. would show up as is without that bottom bar, just the scrolling bar on the side (if that makes any sense).
Here's my sample page link to see what I've done: http://master.dev.mahara.org/user/nelli-agbulos/hello-kitty-says-hello
Also, I was wondering what's the difference between a page skin and a page theme? They seem similar to me. Ms. Hoeppner mentioned that institutions users can make their own page skins, and if anyone has information on that I'd love to try it out.

Hello Nelli,
Thank you very much for testing the upcoming Mahara 1.8 version.
Aaron just posted the difference between skins and themes at https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=5800 The skins feature is now also documented at http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.8/portfolio/skins.html
As far as Google docs go, you either specify the width and height of a document in the embed code that you get from Google or enter the values in the width and height boxes in the block: http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.8/blocks/external.html#google-apps
The document is embedded in a so called iframe which always has a specific size in Mahara. That is why you may see horizontal scrollbars.
sCheers
