We're using Debian packages 1.5.1. The problem is that Debian packages are officially no longer supported (see https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=5340 ).

My question is how to upgrade Debian packages 1.5.1 to a higher stable version (e.g., 1.7.2). I would appreciate your step by step instructions.

Hi Wekai,

I'm sorry no one responded to your post. I was hoping someone else who was more familiar with the Debian package might be able to provide some specific advice.

Generally, speaking, you'll want to do something like the process described here: https://wiki.mahara.org/index.php/System_Administrator%27s_Guide/Upgrading_Mahara

I would recommend making a copy of your Mahara database, and putting the upgrade version's code into a different web directory, rather than re-using the database and overwriting the directory that were populated by the debian package installer. That way you avoid any potential conflicts with the package maintenance.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I'm not very familiar with how the Debian package actually installs Mahara.

Cheers,

Aaron
