Hi,

Not sure if this has been posted before but I was just wondering how much space are you giving to the students to develop their portfolio. :)

What do you all think is the ideal size, if any?

Thanks a bunch.

Hello Liza,

I have not yet seen a size that site administrators agree on. There is everything from 50 MB to 1 GB depending on how much server space an organization can allocate / use. Some Mahara sites go with a smaller file quota for users to encourage the use of external media hosting sites.

What do you want / are you using your portfolios for primarily? What type of files will you be uploading? Do you have a central repository that learners already use for their media and would like to hook up to in Mahara?

Cheers

Kristina

We give 250Mb by default but will give individuals up to 1Gb for specific courses or on special request.

Thank you Kristina for the reply. We are actually giving the students 50MB each for them to develop their portfolio and hoping that they use other external media hosting sites but they are quite reluctant to use them.

Could we hook up say Equella to MAHARA? Currently we don't have a central repository system but say if we could invest in Equella, would it work well with MAHARA?

Hello Norhasliza,

Currently, there is no interface to Equella. Gregor wrote a Cloud plugin that supports a wide range of other repositories: https://wiki.mahara.org/index.php/Plugins/Artefact/Cloud Maybe it is possible to extend the functionality for Equella.

Cheers

Kristina
