Learning to develop in Mahara

I have several ideas for developing Mahara in order to add to it's excellence. But I am not a developer and, looking at the development wiki with a view to teaching myself from there is a ltttle overwhelming. Is there a skilled developer out there who would like to be my mentor (paid) and gently get me going on this?

One example of what I would like to do is: -

Take the journal block and remove the automatic dating and reverse the order of the display of entries and call this new block 'a collection of stories' or something like that.

I don't have much idea of what this would involve, which bits to contract out, which bits to do myself ...

Thanks

Hi Andrew

I certainly don't want to discourage you from getting into Mahara development. It can be fun!

However, to make life easier, would an 'out-of-the-box' Mahara Forum effectively serve as a reversed date order Journal (Blog) and work for your 'collection of stories' ?

A Forum belongs to a Group, which is good for colaborative work, though if you need individually owned Forums, you can always set up a Group with just one (or a few) members.

If these Forums are an important feature of your Mahara, then the My Forum Posts blocktype plugin may also be useful (though I have not yet tried it, myself)

Hope that's not too off-topic
