Now I am on a roll - any suggestions or guidance would be gratefully recieved! I periodically insert external feeds (mainly but not only from youtube). But they seem majorly unstable: although the  block tells me that the link is inserted, there frequently is no vestige of the actual clip or other feed  - then I reinsert and all of a sudden there are two!! and then another one disappears - there appears to be no rationale to this at all. And no, it does not make any difference hanging browsers -

Hello Philippa,

Can you please let us know which version of Mahara you are using? It might also help to know if cron is running properly and if there are any errors in your log file.

1.4 -it appears - and it is v strange that the links are so erratic - I cannot find any indication of errors

Hello Philippa,

Do you have that problem with all your external feeds or just with certain feeds? If the latter is the case, it would be good to have these feeds to check.
