Hello translators,

I am terribly sorry about creating so much noise. Currently, I am working on the user documentation and look more closely at lang strings. I have made it a mission to correct the English strings in terms of consistency in capitalization and correcting minor mistakes. Apparently, that throws off Launchpad and the previous translation isn't shown but it is regarded as new translation.

I don't change the meaning of strings. If that were the case, these strings would be treated separately but not as part of https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/892959

If you download the PO files from Launchpad for use in an offline software, the previous translation may be more easily shown / suggested. We haven't tested it yet. If you have any experience, please let us know.

I still have a bunch of lang strings to look at but after that should be done. In the future there should only be ocassional changes but not such an onslaught anymore.

Hello again,

Francois (Yeah for Francois) sent me some good news for the translation changes:

"You can easily see the entire content of the PO files from here:

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mahara-lang/mahara-lang/master-export/files/head:/mahara/

and this one for 1.4_STABLE:

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mahara-lang/mahara-lang/1.4_STABLE-export/files/head:/mahara/

For example, if you look at the French translation file, you can find
all of the old translations commented out at the bottom of the file:

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mahara-lang/mahara-lang/master-export/view/head:/mahara/fr.po "

That means that you can just copy and paste them in instead of trying to make them up again or trying to find different ways of finding them.

Hello translators,

Heppy new year!

For those of you working on Launchpad: Currently, Richard is testing a new integration with Launchpad that will enable us to fix minor language issues in the original strings without making all strings in your translations untranslated.

This is being tested with the French translation. That means that all others see the minor fixed strings as untranslated. We just did a test upload with just a few strings so as not to cause major string problems and hope that it will work. Once we know it is working, we will set all translations up with that new system.

Hello translators,

Richard had bee making some adjustments to his script and pushed all the minor language string changes we made to the English language pack for which you shouldn't have to update your strings. Hopefully, it worked for most.

If you are a translator and have tips for others who are just starting out with the PO files, it would be great if you shared your experience with PO files / Launchpad translations.
