about me not displayed in profile view
25 October 2011, 5:07
Hi All,
I recently did a big upgrade and have a problem with the about me data showing in profile views.
When you do a user search you can see the about me first bit of text. But clicking though to the profile does not show the rest of the about me text.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Tom

Hi Kristina,
Thanks for the reply. I have attatched two screenshots, one is the search result showing some of the about me, the other is the profile view where none of the about me can be seen.
Ive been looking into it in more detail and think it could be something todo with the block instances, but I am not sure, does that sound familiar to anyone.
Cheers,
Tom

Hello Tom,
Thank you for the screenshots. I think I know what's going on. The text "This is the profile page for Thomas Kirkham" is the standard text from Mahara. When you update your profile with an introduction via the "Content" tab, the text on your profile page is not automatically overwritten.
You will first have to go to the About Me block and configure it so that the Introduction (from your profile information) shows up. Please also make sure that you take out the line "This is the profile page ..." from the manual introduction text box at the end of the configuration box. This box overwrites anything that you put in under "Content".
Cheers

Hi Kristina,
Thanks for the reply. I went to the About Me block and deleted the text. I then dragged in the profile infomation block into the About Me section. However the About Me is now blank and the introduction text has not moved over. Should I move a different or more specifc block into the About Me?
Cheers,
Tom

Hello Tom,
You will not need to drag and drop another block onto the page, but make the change directly in the About Me block. I made a short video to illustrate this better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiuIYMot4ck
