Hi,

I'm trying to install mahara on an 1and1 webspace. (schoolproject... my teacher is starting to really bug me bout that...)

I get the following error:

Mahara: Site unavailable

Your defined data root directory, /homepages/36/d372580410/mahara/uploaddir/, is not writable. This means that neither session data, user files nor anything else that needs to be uploaded can be saved on your server. Please make the directory if it does not exist, or give ownership of the directory to the web server user if it does.
i searched the net and found this post http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=495 but sadly even though i tried everything it still does give me this error.
Thanks for your help

Hi Daniel,

You should check two things:

1- does that directory exist?

2- does the user under which the web server runs (e.g. "www-data" on Debian/Ubuntu) have write permissions on that directory?

Cheers,

Francois

Hi,

1- yes it does exist

2-i changed the rights for that dir to 777 so it should have write permission.
