If members are provided "edit" permissions to a folder, it does not appear that that permission extends to items they may add to the folder, including subfolders.  Is this correct?

Well spotted :)

Looks like a member can create folders but not add anything to it until the member is elevated to tutor or permissions are set on that folder to allow for 'edit'. Maybe one of the six different group types works differently in this respect.

Hello Ellen Marie and Dirk,

Which group type were you using, Ellen Marie? I think the controlled membership group could have that restriction, but not necessarily the others.  We've been writing specifications for changing the group types and I realized that I didn't include the tutor role. I added it to the group revamp.
