Dear mahara.org users,

We would like to inform all users of mahara.org about the new Terms and Conditions for the site mahara.org. You can read them at http://mahara.org/terms.php. In preparation of moving to Mahara 1.4, the project team makes changes to mahara.org to concentrate on the purpose of the site.

Mahara.org is the community space to discuss the software and development of Mahara. The project team is not able to provide portfolio users with the support that they need and expect from a portfolio hosting provider.

Mahara.org ceases to allow its users to have 50 MB of portfolio space as mahara.org is not a portfolio hosting site. The file quota is reduced to 5 MB (see below for current users).

If you want to test Mahara, you can do so at demo.mahara.org . If you are looking for a space where you can have your portfolio hosted, please refer to the Mahara Partners and providers who offer (free) hosting (not a complete list, but the services that we know of).

What does this mean to you?

As current user, your file quota is reduced to your current file usage +5MB.

Accounts have an automatic inactivity of 1 year. Your account and your files become inaccessible therafter if you do not log in before the inactivity takes effect. You can export your data beforehand. We reserve the right to delete accounts after some time of inactivity.

You should be looking into migrating your portfolio from mahara.org to another Mahara instance. The way to do that is via the Leap2A export. A portfolio can be imported into another Mahara instance by a site administrator. Mahara.org runs on Mahara 1.3. The move to another Mahara instance that runs 1.3 or soon 1.4 is possible.

New groups can only be created with administrator approval for the time being. Existing groups will have a file quota in the future as well.

These changes affect user who have been using mahara.org to keep their portfolio. They do not affect the participation in the community forums. Every user still has their profile page and can create pages to provide information on plugins they have written, propose features etc. if they do not use the wiki for these things.

Thank you for your understanding.
