Hi everyone!

As I am doing my fast site development, I am starting to think about my theme and menu needs.  I have a couple of questions.

It has already come up that smarty controls the menus.  Is that tru for the main horizontal menu on the mahara.org site as well, or is that put into the theme? I ask because I noticed two things a) the menu remains even after logout b) it has much more of a mix of views,pages, external systems on it.  

I noticed main mahara.org site also has that additional Navigation menu on the right side, just below the user's info block. Is that put in special (thru the site's theme) or is that an option I can just turn on or enable?

I am really good with firebug so will start tearing into things soon. I just want to make sure I am not reinventing the wheel when I start off

The mahara.org theme is custom, both the top menu and the sideblock. We had to write a bit of code to make it work. That's part of mahara.org, and won't be going into Mahara itself. But it's simple enough to work out
