Approving new users
10 March 2011, 5:36
Hi,
we are allowing users to register themselves and choose the institution they are registering with. Is there a way of setting it so that new users cannot access the system at all until their request to join an institution has been accepted? ie auto suspend them?
any help much appreciated

Hello Cliff,
That is not yet possible. We have a client who is interested in that feature and funding it. If you are willing to co-sponsor that feature, that would be great. I have not yet started on writing up the specifications. Depending on other urgent work that came up, it may be after next week only.
I filed a wishlist item at https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/732980

Hi, thanks for the response.
Not sure we are currently in a position to do that but will check and let you know if we can. For now we are going to switch off self registration and ask institutions to manually create users.
cheers

Hi,
How do you switch off self-registration?
Thanks, Darelle

Hello Darelle,
Please follow these steps to turn off self-registration:
- Go to Site Administration -> Institutions -> Institutions.
- Click on the edit icon next to one institution (even if called No Institution).
- Take the tick off the box "Registration allowed".
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all your institutions.
- Log out. You should not see the registration link anymore.
Cheers

Thanks so much. Now I realise why the self-register link reappeared - one of our admins was playing and added another practice institution, and obviously didn't uncheck that box.
Cheers, Darelle
