Mahara/Moodle integration /
Moodle 2.0 <-> Mahara 1.3

11 February 2011, 16:23

Dear all,

There are more and more discussion in different places on mahara.org about Mahara/Moodle integration (aka Mahoodle).

Thanks to third party plug-ins for Mahara 1.3 and Moodle 1.9, it is possible to go one step further than just SSO and submitting a view from Mahara to assessment in Moodle.

This plugin doesn't work in Moodle 2.0 and its adaptation is unsure (but if someone in the community is interested in this work... we all would be very grateful).

Moodle 2.0 blueprint stated a better integration between Mahara an Moodle but one crucial bit of code was not ready at the time Moodle 2.0 became golden master or RC (release candidate).

It is possible to use Mahara 1.3 as a portfolio from Moodle 2.0 and then save artefacts in Moodle into user's Mahara files holder and then use them in views.

What is missing in Moodle 2.0 is the Mahara repository plugin. On a last post of February 8th 2010, David Mundrak (one of Moodle developers) confirms he is working on it to be added to Moodle core product for version 2.1.

According to Moodle's bugs tracker, Moodle 2.1 should be release end of June.

Before then, if you really need the actual most complete Mahoodle working solution, please install Moodle 1.9.x with the integration plugins.

Cheers,

I searched mahara and mahoodle module and plugin at Moodle.org, I could not find any.

Where can I find the third part plug-in for Mahara1.3 and Moodle 1.9?

A quick search on Google gave me this address:

Please read also the different forums on this subjet on Mahara.org to get more information/solution about this third party feature

I have been wnjoying this thread and reading around what this integration is trying to achieve. Although still in the early stages, our managed learning environment work has approached the eportfolio - LMS integration slightly differently.

It will not bring you an immediate answer but you might benefit if treated as background. And watch this space, as the detailed design will start soon.

Hello dajan,

I'll check with Dan if that is the view submission plugin or if he is just talking about the repository. As he mentions the repository branch, I am a bit doubtful that he means the view submission plugin.

The discussion, for anyone to follow, is at http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-16909

Cheers

Kristina

I agree with you that what will be effectively present in the repository plug-in is unclear.

The Mahara Repository plugin doesn't quite reproduce the view submission plugin....yet.

The Repository plugin allows the user to select a "file" stored in their Mahara profile when using the file picker in Moodle 2.0 - it doesn't allow the user to select a full "view".

...but, once the issues with MNET in Moodle are resolved that are currently holiding back the Mahara plugin from allowing easy install - it shouldn't be too hard to modify the plugin to return URLS for full views as well as the files.

hope that makes sense/helps.
