Teaching and Learning With Mahara
27 January 2011, 16:05
I will try to get permission and URLs from students and faculty who are using Mahara at Plymouth. Sharing K-12 views gets a little more tricky (as you know). We do have a web page with video we recorded at our statewide ePortfolio day. There are a number of presenters who talk about how they are using Mahara.

We have done a pilot project with Mahara (connected via SSO to our Moodle) with 11th grade students. We have Mahara/Moodle for our Middle and High School students. We are a small district in California with around 1500 total students 6-12)
Student projects can be found here

We are now getting use in art classes and will start rolling it out to a larger group of English students.

This is awesome
A big thank you to you and your students for sharing. We are starting with Mahara as well and examples are so great to have because I found students don't really understand what it's for at first.

Thank you Colin for sharing this here.
Do you accept I quote from your blog and show your students' work with Mahara in conferences and Mahara advocacy presentations ?
Cheers,

Hi Dajan,
Feel free to share any of the info I have posted and any of the student work. I will be using the links of other examples posted here to show my teachers to inspire them.

Some of our student projects, and a faculty project as well, can be seen here: http://www.plymouth.edu/online/learningtechnologies/mahara.html
We will be adding to this on a regular basis.

Hello Ellen,
Thanks for the link to the examples. That's great.
If I remember correctly from a tweet, Plymouth State also allows Alumni to keep their portfolio after graduation (250 MB). Is that still correct?
Cheers

I work in a UK school with children aged from 11 to 16. While there seem to be a variety of ways Mahara can be useful to older students, I have only seen a few examples of using it with under 12s. I am currently trying to find ways to use Mahara with our 11 year olds and have posted my latest trials here -http://www.moodleblog.org/?p=435 It is still in its infancy, with students still learning the ICT and copyright skills needed but they are having lots of fun so far.06 February 2011, 19:28
I look forward to hearing about your success with younger students. Mahara presents a safe student centric space for web development skills, social networking (1.0) and practicing digital citizenship.
I had much interest from primary grade teachers in New England in my presentations on Mahara last summer....
