How does the updating of RSS feeds work?

Hi,

José on Twitter said it takes a long time to pull in RSS feed updates. As far as I know, the feed is always updated when a view is accessed. However, could there be any other reason why a feed is not updated with the latest feed items when viewed in a view?

Cheers

I've just had a look.  Feeds are only updated once an hour regardless of whether they are accessed or not.  The only other time they are pulled in is when the block is configured.

The frequency can be changed but only directly in the database (the "blocktype_cron" table).

Thanks, Richard. I updated the wiki  (http://wiki.mahara.org/User_Guide/2_My_Portfolio/1_My_Views/Create_a_View/External_RSS_feeds).

However, then the information below the feed is incorrect and needs to change. Filed a bug report for that at https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/610692
