Hello,

I am new to Mahara and am trying my first install.

Having read all the requirments and following the installation procedure, am unable to install.

The message is "not using a UTF-8 database" when my database is utf-8. Please check the screen shot.

screen shot

Instead of localhost

$cfg->dbhost   = 'mysql50-63.wc1.sat1.stabletransit.com';

Please advice.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello Prashant,

Can you please go into the database and check in the "Operations" tab if the encoding is truly UTF8? When I created a database for Mahara and specifically told PhPMyAdmin to use UTF8 encoding, it still did not create the database with it. It had a Latin encoding. I could change it at the bottom in the "Operations" tab and use it just fine during the installation of Mahara.

Cheers

Kristina

Hi

I also came across this posting that suggests that there is more than one utf_unicode coding and the ci one is the wrong choice. Sorry i can't verify - don't have MySQl installed.

I accidentally chose the utf8_unicode_ci from the wrong drop down list in phpMyAdmin when creating the database - there's two right next to each other and it's easy to use the wrong one. Will remember that next time.
