Playlists in embedded media block
16 May 2010, 23:22
Kia ora,
I was reflecting on our use of the embedded media block and thought it would be really useful to be able to put together a 'playlist' of 2+ videos to tell a story through those videos. For instance someone wanting to show their development in a skill might want to record a video each week to show their progress. Having a 'Next/Previous' option in the video block would be a good way to do this.
How difficulut would it be to add a feature like this to the existing embed video block?

Hi Mark,
We've actually got something similar for images: a slideshow block.
It has not yet been merged into master though, we've got quite a few things to review at the moment.
But basically, once that slideshow block is in, I think we could use a similar approach for videos.

Hello,
Just a brief update that I posted to the MLE Reference Group (http://groups.google.com/group/mle-reference-group) as the question came up there as well:

Anyone got an update on this?
Yes, I do. :-) I just talked to one of the developers, and he told me that embed could should work as one of our colleague's had worked on that. I tried it in http://master.dev.mahara.org and could get videos and slideshows embedded that do not use an <iframe>: http://master.dev.mahara.org/view/view.php?t=vLwo19HTOygW8SkXFpjN
Vimeo videos for example, use <iframe> as new code, but you can still switch to their old code to get the <object> embed.
The embed code will work in version 1.3 which will come out shortly.
Currently, it is only possible to use the embed code in an html file that needs to be uploaded to Mahara. YouTube, Google, TeacherTube and Scivee videos can be uploaded by just providing the URL.

Sorry. I missed to mention that videos can also be embedded in general. Though currently, they don't show up for me in the visual editor (filed a report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/623671).

Hi Francois
Are you talking about the slideshow on the frontpage of mahara.org which uses coverflow to create a flash object.
What artefacts would the slideshow block allow to be selected and would it be possible to see a demo at some stage?
regards
Craig

Hi Craig,
As far as I know, the coverflow is not talked about but embedding videos from online services in general.
