Translating Mahara
11 May 2026, 13:40
Hello everyone,
With the Mahara 26.04 release, we are using a new translation tool, Weblate. Launchpad retired vital infrastructure for translations, and thus we needed to look for a new option to help community members translating Mahara. We settled on Weblate, which is used by other open source software projects and comes with a good set of features, including suggestions and discussions around particular strings.
Currently, the following languages are available for Mahara 26.04:
- Arabic
- Catalan
- Dutch
- French
- German
- Japanese
- Spanish
- te reo Māori
Weblate comes with some handy translation tools if you are looking to translate Mahara directly from within your browser:
- Identification of double spaces, mitmatched punctuation and line breaks
- Zen mode for translating that shows a continuous list of strings
- Suggestions / reviews
- Discussion
- Cloning of existing text
- Automatic suggestions from a couple of built-in machine translation tools - to be used with caution as they sometimes display interesting results
If you want to help translate Mahara, you can sign up on Weblate and then let me know so I can add you to the translation team. We can import other languages from Launchpad to be translated if your preferred language is not yet represented.
Thank you
Kristina
