Hello everyone,

With the Mahara 26.04 release, we are using a new translation tool, Weblate. Launchpad retired vital infrastructure for translations, and thus we needed to look for a new option to help community members translating Mahara. We settled on Weblate, which is used by other open source software projects and comes with a good set of features, including suggestions and discussions around particular strings.

Currently, the following languages are available for Mahara 26.04:

  • Arabic
  • Catalan
  • Dutch
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Spanish
  • te reo Māori

Weblate comes with some handy translation tools if you are looking to translate Mahara directly from within your browser:

  • Identification of double spaces, mitmatched punctuation and line breaks
  • Zen mode for translating that shows a continuous list of strings
  • Suggestions / reviews
  • Discussion
  • Cloning of existing text
  • Automatic suggestions from a couple of built-in machine translation tools - to be used with caution as they sometimes display interesting results

If you want to help translate Mahara, you can sign up on Weblate and then let me know so I can add you to the translation team. We can import other languages from Launchpad to be translated if your preferred language is not yet represented.

Thank you

Kristina
