We have recently implemented Mahara 1.1.5 and I came across strange thing. Under the Links and Resources we have put a pdf flyer. This is for both Public and Logged in users.

It works perfectly on Firefox but in IE7 or IE8  when one click this links IE complains that it cannot display the webpage and gives potential reasons.

And when you copy the link of this flyer and paste in another tab of IE it works perfectly !

Wow, that sounds very strange!

What is the wwwroot of your Mahara installation, and what is the path that the link is generated for?

Is it available publicly to see?

Also - do you have any particular IE security policy that might be causing the issue?

The wwwroot and the generaed link both are same.

There is no particular IE Security policy.

We have TEST enviornment identical like PORDUCTION. Test links are working fine in IE.

https://eportfolio.usq.edu.au and your user name is nigel.

Thanks

Hi - I had a look around it, trying in several browsers.

I logged in with IE7, then tried downloading it - success. After that, every time I tried it, IE either hung saying "connecting..." or displayed that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"  message. I even got weird behaviour like that in Safari, although Firefox always handled it correctly. I also tried with curl on the command line, and curl didn't have any complaints.

I'm afraid I don' t have any smart ideas, sorry! Maybe it's because you're serving the site as https, but I can't think of any reason why that would cause the kind of behaviour you're seeing..

Is your test site https or http?

Well the TEST site is https and almost identical to the production one.

It works perfectly with the TEST system.

This is really strange !

I tried with other PDF and Word documents and it works fine.

So, the conclusion something is wrong with the PDF Flyer that causes IE's strange behaviour.

Thanks for looking into this.
