Italian translation
21 December 2008, 5:00
Hey! Guys! i'm doing the translation of mahara system in italian. At the end i have this situatuation. Seems like i need to use special non utf8 characters. like ò àè and others on lang files. The weird thing is that using html translation of those characters doesn't work. Obviously, the stings are cleaned up. i need an iso-8859. i notices that lang directory contains the iso (en.utf8). can anyone give me a hint on solving the problem? tx a lot

i have to do a correction. This happens only into the mahara.php of the lang directory. Other files do parse correctly. THe problem is that mahara.php contains the basic title and options of the user interface. Is it possible that i've done some damage at the functins and classes during translation?? though i think not, therwise other files would not be parsed. I'm preparing and onenote file to document my problem. Soon i will post the link to the translation testing unit online. Tx21 December 2008, 16:53
Hi. Your language files need to be utf8. Anything available in the iso-8859-1 character set is available in utf8 as characters - you won't need any entities. Mahara doesn't expect or support entities in the language files.
You may have to save your language file as utf8, which you can do in most text editors by using Save As, or alternatively, finding an Encoding menu option.

I would also like to launch the Italian translation of Mahara.I have written a private message to Costin Aldea and created a group for italian users. I write here in the hope that Aldea respond me.
I would not do a useless job.
Of course the translation would be made available to all.
Where Aldea not answer you can get an indication about how to make a correct translation?
Just simply to translate the files that are in the en.utf8 and create a directory with the files it.utf8 translated?
Thank you.

Who is Costin Aldea?
That's roughly how you translate but note that there are translation directories (en.utf8) in many subdirectories of Mahara. E.g. artefact/blog/lang/en.utf8.

With regard to employment, I can imagine that it is not something easy.
In fact, I started a group that I hope will get many signers.
The idea is to work in groups.
We hope good.

Oh, right you are about Costin Aldea
I see your group. Could you please make it an open group? If so we can consider it the official Italian Group for Mahara

yes! I couldn't say it's a easy thing to do, this translation, though I must say that the fact that the language files are quite orderdered is of great help. Anyway, for being more specific, the focus directories are LANG, ARTEFACTS and BLOCKTYPE which contains more than 95% of the needed files.
Tx for ur interest in this topic! Mahara is a grea tool ! Hope we can implement it as soon as possible!

It was months, if not years, I was looking for an application with the characteristics of Mahara and with a modern and intelligent way.
I will, therefore, very happy to open the group and I consider this a great responsibility for me. As soon as I can complete the profile so that you know me better. Meanwhile, if there are tasks to be accomplished, you can send messages in private.
Greetings and I hope to do a good job for the project Mahara.
