(1) I am a new user in moodle and mahara.
I would like to build those systems for all my classes.
Could someone please give some advices about ...
A.what kind of the server I should have for mahara?
which part of the hardware should pay more attention? (RAM or CPU or HD)
what is the best Operation System for mahara?
B.May someone could give me some list/advices, I appreciate.

(2) is it possible that mahara login via POP3 ?
    also, if it's possible...
should I login into mahara again after I logged in the moodle?
(both of the mahara and moodle login via pop3)
How could I do that I could go through both system without login again?

(3) when will the new version which is include export/import function release?
I think the "EXPORT" function would be the very great for students.

It's great to have this kind of software.

Thank you

Hi,

Any modern server will run them fine, for a small number of concurrent users. If you want to focus on something, webapps are normally CPU limited.

You'll need enough disk to support how much data users will be storing, which you can alter by changing their quotas. It's quite possible to "oversell" your quota though, as many users don't bother uploading anything. So for example, if you have 200 users with a 1G quota, you won't need 200G of space - you'll probably do fine with just 50G for the first year - though be prepared to scale it up if needed.

For logging in from Moodle, google for 'Mahoodle'. Mahara supports single signon with Moodle. The PDF documentation is very good. Mahara doesn't currently have a pop3 authentication plugin, though it does have IMAP.

The new version will be released when it's released - sadly at the moment it's hard to say when that is. We still have theming stuff and the remainder of import/export to finish.
