Mahara not logging on from Moodle
22 July 2009, 14:39
Hi
My previous forum post seems to be corrupt - I cannot get in to it at any rate. However, I seem to have solved that problem by another clean install of each package.
However, I now have 90% of SSO working - but it isn't actually logging a user in. It is creating them an account, but they cannot log infrom Moodle, and when they try and log in via mahara it says
You have not provided the correct credentials to log in. Please check your username and password are correct.
Welcome to Mahara
Mahara is a fully featured electronic portfolio, weblog, resume builder and social networking system, connecting users and creating online communities. Mahara provides you with the tools to set up a personal learning and development environment.
For more information you can read About Mahara or alternatively please feel free to Contact Us.
That means that my moodle server is creating accounts on my mahara server, but not actually allowing people to log into the mahara server. Maybe I am not actually 90% there at all!! :)
This is on a shared hosting package (I know - not good), byt everything seems to be fine.

moodle username iwatts - password=sydney (admin account)
Mahara username admin - password = sydney3519 (admin account)
Hope someone can help
Cheers

Hi Ian,
I can't get to your other post right now, but I meant 'mnet_host', not 'mnet_peer'.
Anyway about this message: your users will certainly need to be able to log in via Moodle, rather than directly into Mahara.
Can you look at the webserver logs right at the exact minute that you click the jump url from Moodle to Mahara and paste exactly those few lines? I think the reason I can't get into your last post here might be the length of the log you pasted, so it would be really helpful if you could narrow it down to a few lines only :)

Hi Ian,
Those are the logs from the access log - do you also have access to the error log?

Hi - posting what I posted just now in the other thread (which I fixed the display of btw) - what happens if you turn off 'update user info on login' ?23 July 2009, 13:36
Hi
I cleared the error logs out and redid the process, with a new standard account in Moodle and then trying to SSO into Mahara. It didn't work, and when I checked the error logs, there were none, so certainly nothing is reporting as an error.
I only have the option for two lots of logs in CPANEL - Raw access logs and error logs. Not sure if this is a limitation of shared hosting.
I tried turning off "update user info on login" and then repeated the process - i.e. creating a new user in moodle, and then logging in as that user into moodle. When I click on Mahara in network servers it takes me to my mahara's log in page, but doesn't log it in. However, when I log into mahara as admin, it has created that user - it just will not log them in.
I am stumped at this point. My own technical skills do not let me get much further. That is why I have given you the admin unames and passwords to my apps (they are only test ones!! :) Maybe you can spot something I have done wrong.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian,
I'm sorry you're having such trouble :( I guess it sounds like you've found a bug with the moodle integration code that affects shared hosting. It would be good to track it down, but without access to the code and the server that's really hard.
I logged into Moodle and Mahara and tried a few things and everything looks fine, so I really don't know how to continue without actively debugging it, which is really hard to do without an ssh account on the server :(

Hi, and thanks for taking a look. Not sure what SSH is - There is somewhere on Cpanel for my shared hosting to generate an SSH key for logging in - is that any use? As I say - this is now outside of my knowledge!
If not, thanks for the help anyway. Guess I'll have to develop my skills further and go beyond shared hosting!! :)
Cheers
Ian
