missing parameter
28 May 2009, 10:49
Hi everybody,
fairly new to Mahara, but I hope this question is not daft: When linking to a user's profile from outside mahara http://xyz.net/user/view.php without the user being logged in, the user is not promted to login - instead I get an error message (missing parameter).
Is there a way to refer to this page from without?
Thanks, Michael

Hallo Michael,
greetings from Germany ;-)
I think your link is missing something. If you want to see my profil you have to use:
http://mahara.org/user/view.php?id=11
view.php?id=11 id=11 shows the internal number in the mahara.org db, by the way may birthday
If you choose the option allow public (not logged in) access you are "visbile" without to join mahara community.

Hi Heinz,
thanks for your reply - perhaps I need to be a bit more explict. I am writing an instruction page outside of mahara and want to say: click here to see your profile. If the user is logged in this http://mahara.org/user/view.php actually brings me to my profile (id NOT required). So, in theory, IF Mahara knows who I am, it should deliver my profile page. HOWEVER, opening that page is not intersected by a login prompt, i.e. mahara does not know who I am and, therefore, misses a parameter. How can a get to ANY users page without asking them to have logged in first?
(BTW mahara.org/view/ does prompt me if I am not logged in, so it CAN work...)
It appears my next birthday is in 2067 ;-(

Hello Michael,
in which area do you work with Mahara? If you are German speaking the http://ewiesion/wiki might be of interest ;-)
You are right. The "shortcut" /user/view.php works only if you are logged in. If you hover over your username on the right side you will notice, that the profil is called with and added id=
An instruction page should show the users to view their profil with a click on this username or if the take the way with the main menu "Profile"
Only users who have given their profilpage to public access could be seen without logging in.

Hi - I guess we could improve the behaviour here a bit. If there is no id provided, show the login prompt instead - should be an easy enough change.. would you be able to file a bug report on the tracker about this, so we don't forget?
