Hi all

Default membership in Institution Settings can be set so that "After this length of time, the users will be removed from the institution".  

1. Can you please let me what happens to their account when they have been removed from the institution (and the site does not allow multiple institutions).  
2. Will the users receive a notification advising that they are going to be/or have been removed from the institution.  If so, what is the wording in the notification and where is it located?

Hi Jennifer,

you should have an institution called No Institution, which you cannot delete and for which you cannot set a default membership. If a user joins an institution you have set up and he get's removed from that by the default membership setting, he will become member of the No Institution again. 

Users are notified about when they are getting removed from an institution, it's the last block of auth/lib.php:auth_handle_account_expiries(). The time before the warning seems to be the same as for account-expiries. The text can be found in lang/en.utf8/mahara.php, look for institutionmembershipexpirywarningtext. They don't get another mail when they leave the institution. The exact words depend on the version of your installation, in my 1.9-setting it says: 

Dear %s[user],

Your membership of %s[institution] on %s[mahara-installation] will expire within %s[X days].

If you wish to extend your membership or have any questions regarding the above, please feel free to contact us:

%s[link to contact.php]
