Hi all,

I have been trying to get wikipedia articles embedded in Mahara. It works well for WikiEducator but doesn't display the article for Wikipedia. I found that in the list of allowed objects Wikipedia can only be displayed with the embed code and not with the URL, same with some other objects - see screenshot.

As there is no embedcode for wikipedia, it doesn't seem to be possible then?

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks

Sigi

Hi Sigi:

Sorry, I don't see the screenshot, but have a look at iframe generator in the the Mahara Manual Tips and Tricks:

http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.8/tips/openbadges.html#generate-an-iframe-for-your-badge-collection

It should make some kind of adjustable frame for your wikipedia page. Not perfect, but good enough?

Hi Don,

yes, this is the solution indeed and it works! Kristina had told me about the iFrame generator some time ago but I had completely forgotten .... old age... ;-)

Thanks all for the prompt answers!

Best regards

Sigi

Hi,

There are a number of external sites from which embedded iframe code is trusted. To add a new trusted site you need to go to the admin section -> Extensions -> allowed iframe sources and add the new site there.

http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.8/administration/extensions.html#allowed-iframe-sources

This should allow you to use the External Media block to embed the wikipedia iframe code.

http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.8/blocks/external.html?highlight=iframe#external-media.

Cheers

Robert

Hi Sigi

I know it doesnt help in this particular case but there is a growing list of Allowed iframe sources listed here:

https://wiki.mahara.org/index.php/Allowed_iframe_sources#Added_by_community_members

Please feel free to contribute

Hello,

I've been trying to add two new iframe sources, without success. I've added the URL as explained:

Screenshot_2020-02-27 Fuentes de iframe permitidas - Mahara.png

and the source has been included in the list, with his icon:

but any of them is showed when the page is displayed. It only appears when I come back from code editor to visual editor.

Am I doing something wrong? Neither of them is on this list.

Many thanks in advance,

Hi Ramón,

Without seeing the value for "URL or embed code" from the block's configuration setting it is hard to work out what is going wrong.

However, when I went to the URL of the page where it contains the item you were trying to embed (and from view source of the page you linked) I got the URL of the item. I then tried setting it up as an embedly link like so:

<a class="embedly-card" href="https://www.mindomo.com/mindmap/plan-docente-online-2-c7a856833cb2de6ef99c4d517248caa5"></a>

And put that in for the value for "URL or embed code" for the block.

I can now see the item both in edit and display mode on my local instance (Mahara version 19.10)

Hope that helps

Robert

I'm very sorry, Robert, because I was not doing the tests in the site where I was changing the allowed iframe source settings. Here is a link to the page where both Genially and Mindomo iframes are displayed. Besides this, I was using the code view of the editor to insert my iframes code, up to now, for me, the "External media" block was sort of the youTube block..

So, as a recap: 1) both new iframes sources are allowed and working in the test site, 2) External media block will be more user friendly than the code view of a text block editor. 3) Even without allowing a new source, an iframe could me embed using the embedly trick. Here is yesterday's page, which is in production site, where any new source has been allowed. It makes a little messy in edition view, with my iframe overlapping next row of blocks, but works fine when page is diplayed.  It didn't work for Genially (<a class="embedly-card" href="https://view.genial.ly/5cc382287f316b0f70d92a9f"></a>).

Still I don't manage very well how to give an iframe a 100% width, because it gets a very small height. That would be next step. Many thanks for your help.

Cheers,

I'm sorry to come back with an iframe and embedding issue, but I'm not able to enable Twitter accounts embedding.

I have added 2 twitter domains to allowed iframe sources (see attached image) and I'm trying to embed a timeline

<a class="twitter-timeline" href="https://twitter.com/ramonovelar?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">Tweets by ramonovelar</a> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

but it doesn't work, as you can see in this public page:

Many thanks in advance,
