I see what you mean. Institution home pages are a good idea. They'd be a bit different from groups, though if groups got Views for home pages they might be quite similar after all..
You're right about the view copying permissions. Currently they're tied to who can see the view. This is an issue we shall have to clean up in future versions.

I am convinced that taking care of some aspects of the software, rather than aim for a wild development, Mahara can become a powerful software and customizations that you can go far beyond simple e-portfolio.
These reflections are some of those who submit more complete from time to time to the community during my test of usability.
I agree that the home page could be similar to that of the group. If you can prove I could be useful to imagine a page type.
